First Spring Day in Toronto

Apr. 3rd, 2011 | 12:09 am

It never ceases to amaze me. The sight of the CN tower standing proudly among the glass buildings of downtown Toronto. Everywhere you turn, another angle of it dominates the landscape. But there's something about seeing it on that first spring day, that true change of season, when the sky is blue, the sun is shining, and white fluffy clouds slide across the sky, the perfect backdrop for the tallest free-standing structure in the western hemisphere. It never gets old.

Toronto has this pulsing energy. Pedestrians routinely crossing against the light, paper coffee cup in hand, some in a hurry, some knowing that in this city, they are king, no car would dare get close. The cyclists slide carefully (and sometimes not so carefully) between the cars, desperate to speed forward, in hopes of beating the next traffic light.

The winter coats are shed in favour of the long-sleeved hoodie, with some brave enough to pull out the cargo pants with sandals (I shiver just looking at them)

It's not warm enough yet to see racks of clothes on the sidewalks, proprietor's doors are not yet ready to be left open in hopes of catching the cool summer breeze, but we're getting there, and sometimes, the anticipation is half the fun.

There's nothing like watching a cool, urban city SPRING to life, that outdoor patio will soon be calling my name and, drink in hand, it will be my pleasure to take it all in, ships docking at the habour, lovers holding hands in the park, dogs pulling on the leash, ready to go for that long overdue run. And in the background, a lit tower stands guard over it's city, keeping an eye on those that are lucky enough to call this city home.
