Paris a la radio station

I qualified for a three week trip to Paris yesterday through a classical radio station in Toronto. It's the longest "free" trip I've ever heard a radio station give away, and to say that I was blown away when I actually got through is an understatement. The lines are usually clogged with retirees quick with an obsure trivia answer I could never hope to know.

The tide took a turn my way yesterday when I got a question about beer and took a wild stab at an answer that seemed to make sense.

1) I couldn't believe that the phone was actually ringing (it's long distance for me and as a result, often takes too long for me to connect, taking away any chance I have of getting in first.)

2) That he answered and asked me the question.
"What happened to beer in 1935?"
Wild guess answer "They started selling it in cans."

"They did!" He says. "What's your name?"

At this point, I almost pass out from shock. He puts me on hold, telling me to wait two minutes while he finishes out a commercial, after which we will go "live" and I'm to say the answer again.

I managed to find my tongue and make small talk on air before blurting out my answer (secretly hoping that they haven't changed their minds in the time I've been on hold.)

Here's a glimpse at my 1 in 19 shot at Paris. I don't expect to win, but it's nice to have a shot at it. I hope whoever wins appreciates the experience and thinks of it as "once in a lifetime." because it clearly is.

Our Grand Prize package includes an incredible 3 week trip-for-two featuring an in-depth and historic exploration of the “City of Light"; Art, History and French lectures, excursions, walking tours, accommodations, airfare for two, fine food, wine tastings and more.
