Toronto Island Airport

Here's a picture of the airport I'll be flying out of to go to Quebec.

Yes, it's out on the Lake (Lake Ontario to be exact)  The distance you need to travel across the water to get out to the planes? A whapping 400 feet. A friend of mine took this while making the crossing earlier this week after a trip to Chicago. It is currently called The Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport but is widely known only as "The Island Airport." (For obvious reasons)

Believe it or not, this airport is on the fast track to expansion. They now offer flights to Boston, New York, and Chicago where they were once only known for their regional flights.

This hub is also used for emergency medical flights thanks to it's close proximity to downtown Toronto and her world-renouned hospitals. Not bad for the little airport that nobody wanted. Why not you ask? Because the "island" is also home to some of the Toronto elite, concerned about property values and excessive noise. It's been a see-saw battle of people vs plane for years now, with a delicate truce holding despite some frayed edges, and frayed nerves.
