Big Ben vs Big Beth

Okay, I admit it. I'm really ticked off.

Word has it that British lawmakers are looking to change the name of the London Clock Tower from "Big Ben" to "Elizabeth Tower" in honour of her 60th year on the thrown.(Diamond Jubilee)

  Is nothing sacred?

This clock (actually, it's the bells inside of the clock that are known as "Big Ben" given their size/scope) has had this name for over 150 years, why do the royals need more namesakes? Granted, it wasn't the Queen's idea, but how about a polite "no thank you" issued on behalf of the family? Don't these people have enough "stuff" named in their honour?  From the sounds of it, a name change is imminent. The Brits are already joking that the change is "no big deal," as the nickname will shift from "Big Ben" to "Big Beth." Ha ha.

Don't worry Ben, you'll always be "Big Ben" to me, and no amount of royal greed will ever change that.
