In like Spring, out like Winter...

Record high season temperatures a little over a week ago, did an about-face two days ago, leaving us with snow, hail and no doubt a lot of frazzled gardeners/farmers as they hope that this unexpected blast of cold doesn't damage either their delicate buds, or their money-making crops.

Honestly? Most Canadians know that this is always a possibility and while many sauntered down beach boardwalks last week in their shorts and t-shirts, there were whispers of "this is too good to be true, I'd put my money on snow next week."

To the pessimists go the spoils.

This is Canada, eh.

Winter isn't done until Mother Nature has one last laugh at our expense.

Don't put the snow shovel away just yet, because the joke is clearly on us.

Big Ben vs Big Beth

Okay, I admit it. I'm really ticked off.

Word has it that British lawmakers are looking to change the name of the London Clock Tower from "Big Ben" to "Elizabeth Tower" in honour of her 60th year on the thrown.(Diamond Jubilee)

  Is nothing sacred?

This clock (actually, it's the bells inside of the clock that are known as "Big Ben" given their size/scope) has had this name for over 150 years, why do the royals need more namesakes? Granted, it wasn't the Queen's idea, but how about a polite "no thank you" issued on behalf of the family? Don't these people have enough "stuff" named in their honour?  From the sounds of it, a name change is imminent. The Brits are already joking that the change is "no big deal," as the nickname will shift from "Big Ben" to "Big Beth." Ha ha.

Don't worry Ben, you'll always be "Big Ben" to me, and no amount of royal greed will ever change that.

Happy St. Paddy's Day!

Happy St Patrick's Day to my Irish friends. Green rivers, green beer, green with envy as I miss the rolling expanses of green grass:-) Afraid I'm not a beer drinker so...Shakes and cakes anyone?

May the luck of the Irish be with us all today!

Times Flies. 365 Days and Counting...

So, I've been yammering on about myself in this little corner of the world for a year now. Are you bored yet? Maybe I shouldn't pose such an open-ended/loaded question eh? :-)

I honestly wondered if I could do it. I originally started with the hopes of sharing the details and pictures of my UK trip, starting the blog in March to get myself in the habit of writing and sharing in a comprehensive/interesting way. I hope I've accomplished that here, if only a little.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to sharing my thoughts/ideas/trip experiences long into the future!

An outdoor patio, a little sun, and a lot of sweet...

First day on a patio yesterday as it hit a whooping 16C (low 60's for those of you familiar with fahrenheit.) Broke a forty year old temperature record, and I must admit, brought out the green-eyed monster of jealousy as I caught sight of numerous bikes locked against iron railings. I've always wanted to ride but can't, thanks to poor balance and feet that refuse to stay planted on the pedals. In short, I would need training wheels to balance the bike for me and let's just say, I'm WAY to old to even consider anything close to it. :-)

I stayed outside for half an hour before the wind got to be too much and we made a run for an indoor table. Still, it was a tantilizing taste of what's to come, and it was a joy to see the sun.

Did I mention that I had a strawberry/caramel waffle topped with ice-cream? It was a good day. :P

Look! Someone else loves Williams (Coffee Pub)  as much as I do, and took a pic of my EXACT waffle. Yes, it is as good as it looks and I ate almost the WHOLE THING on my own. (I gave Mom the last few bites because she was craving a sweet and I had eaten WAY too much.) Who could resist something that looks this delectable?

Return to human form

Alas I'm finally feeling at least somewhat human. It seems to take me FOREVER to get over stuff like this and believe me, I had nothing of value to say beyond **hack** **cough** **whine**

Still not much to say as it's March 5th and -13 today. Clearly, winter isn't over just yet.

Radio luck is crummy too with new people answering the phone and not falling in line:-) Kijiji has turned into a selling nightmare with people not calling/following through when they say they want something ect...very annoying/frustrating.

Even the summer trip isn't co-operating as mom and I struggle to cordinate everything and not file for bankruptcy when we get back. Pricey flights, buses, taxis and trains...hey, that sounds like a song!

Taxis, trains, and planes go sliding over the plains....urrrrr..ya, clearly I'm still on medication!

Nice to "see" you all, hope I have something fun to report soon....
